Daily Bible reading: Matthew 9:1-17, Genesis 29-30
A FRIEND OF JESUS
Did Jesus sit together at the same table with sinners? YES. Did He live in holiness and without sin? YES. So how can it be? Being the disciples of Jesus will never mean that we must run away from the community and do not want to sit together again with the neighbour. As Matthew responded to Jesus’ calling and decided to follow Him, it was a very good opportunity to bless the community of Matthew: the tax collectors and sinners! Even Jesus once called as the friend of sinners and tax collectors Mat.11:19.
Jesus said: “Those who are well have no need of physician, but those who are sick.” The believers are called as the physician, the heavenly physician for this sick world. As the physician we must meet those who are sicks so that we can help and cure them. The doctor will everyday meet sick people, but it does not mean that he must get sick everyday. We are called to bless our neighbour, to love them, to help them, to bring them out of their sin. While we must keep saying NO to sins, it will never mean that we must say NO as well to their soul.
We may see the sins as the cloth. People may not aware that they are wearing the cloth of sin 2Cor.4:4. While we sit together with them, we must never wear their cloth of sins, we sit with them because we love their soul and not their cloths Jud.1:23. Let’s have a heart to save the soul and bring them to Jesus because they are also called friends of Jesus.
SAHABAT YESUS
Apakah Yesus duduk bersama dengan orang berdosa? YA. Apakah Dia hidup dalam kekudusan dan tanpa dosa? YA. Jadi bagaimana mungkin? Menjadi murid Yesus bukan berarti bahwa kita harus melarikan diri dari komunitas dan tidak mau lagi duduk bersama dengan tetangga. Ketika Matius menanggapi panggilan Yesus dan memutuskan untuk mengikuti-Nya, itu adalah kesempatan yang sangat baik untuk memberkati komunitas Matius: pemungut cukai dan orang berdosa! Bahkan Yesus juga disebut sebagai sahabat orang berdosa dan pemungut cukai Mat.11:19.
Yesus berkata: “Bukan orang sehat yang memerlukan tabib, tetapi orang sakit.” Orang-orang percaya dipanggil sebagai tabib, tabib surgawi untuk dunia yang sakit. Sebagai seorang tabib, kita harus bertemu dengan orang yang sakit sehingga kita dapat membantu dan menyembuhkan mereka. Setiap hari dokter akan bertemu dengan orang sakit, tetapi hal itu tidak berarti bahwa dokter harus sakit setiap hari. Kita dipanggil untuk memberkati tetangga kita, untuk mengasihi mereka, untuk membantu mereka, untuk membawa mereka keluar dari dosa. Kita harus tetap mengatakan TIDAK pada dosa, namun bukan berarti kita harus mengatakan TIDAK pada jiwa mereka.
Kita harus melihat dosa seperti pakaian. Orang mungkin tidak sadar bahwa mereka mengenakan pakaian dosa 2Kor.4:4. Ketika kita duduk bersama dengan mereka, kita tidak boleh mengenakan pakaian dosa, kita duduk bersama mereka karena kita mengasihi jiwa mereka dan bukan pakaiannya Jud.1:23. Mari kita memiliki hati untuk menyelamatkan jiwa-jiwa dan membawa mereka pada Yesus karena mereka juga disebut sahabat Yesus.
