WHAT IS THE FRUIT OF THE SPIRIT?

Jesus said: “Every good tree bears good fruit, but a bad tree bears bad fruit. A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, nor can a bad tree bear good fruit Mat.7:17-18.” The fruit of the Spirit is the visible result when believers continuously walking in the Spirit.

“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law Gal.5:22-23.” Paul also mentioned about it for the church at Ephesus. “For the fruit of the Spirit is in all goodness and righteousness and truth Eph.5:9.” The fruit of the Spirit is not just about a good character that all people in this world may also be able to try to develop it. The fruit of the Spirit is something from the Holy Spirit that will grow from the inside, it will be pure and tasty, not just a temporary patch at the outside.

The fruit of the Spirit will replace all the works of the flesh that described previously Gal.5:19-21. A common good character that this world could learn may present together with the work of flesh. For example, kindness as a common character may present together with hatred. But the fruit of the Spirit will never present together with the work of flesh because the flesh lusts against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; and these are contrary to one another Gal.5:17. Let’s keep walking in the Spirit so that we can have a true fruit of the Spirit.

APAKAH BUAH ROH ITU?

Yesus berkata, ”Setiap pohon yang baik menghasilkan buah yang baik, sedang pohon yang tidak baik menghasilkan buah yang tidak baik. Tidak mungkin pohon yang baik itu menghasilkan buah yang tidak baik, ataupun pohon yang tidak baik itu menghasilkan buah yang baik Mat.7:17-18.” Buah Roh adalah hasil yang nyata ketika orang percaya terus menerus berjalan di dalam Roh.

“Tetapi buah Roh ialah: kasih, sukacita, damai sejahtera, kesabaran, kemurahan, kebaikan, kesetiaan, kelemahlembutan, penguasaan diri. Tidak ada hukum yang menentang hal-hal itu Gal.5:22-23.” Paulus juga menyebutkan tentang hal itu untuk gereja di Efesus. “Karena terang hanya berbuahkan (NKJV: buah Roh adalah) kebaikan dan keadilan dan kebenaran Ef.5:9.” Buah Roh bukan hanya tentang karakter baik yang dapat diusahakan semua orang di dunia ini. Buah Roh adalah sesuatu dari Roh Kudus yang akan bertumbuh dari dalam diri kita, itu akan menjadi murni dan lezat, bukan hanya sekedar tempelan sementara di sebelah luar.

Buah Roh akan menggantikan semua perbuatan daging yang dijelaskan sebelumnya Gal.5:19-21. Karakter baik secara umum yang dapat dipelajari oleh dunia ini dapat hadir bersamaan dengan perbuatan daging. Misalnya, kebaikan sebagai karakter umum dapat muncul bersamaan dengan kebencian. Tetapi buah Roh tidak akan pernah hadir bersamaan dengan perbuatan daging karena keinginan daging berlawanan dengan keinginan Roh dan keinginan Roh berlawanan dengan keinginan daging, karena keduanya bertentangan Gal.5:17. Mari kita terus berjalan di dalam Roh sehingga kita dapat memiliki buah Roh yang sejati.
