WHAT IS THE YEAST OF THE PHARISEES AND THE YEAST OF HEROD?

In the Bible, leaven, or yeast, was used to explain both about the good thing and also the bad one. Jesus said that the kingdom of heaven is like leaven, which a woman took and hid in three measures of meal till it was all leavened Mat.13:33. It is very small, doing the unseen process, but bring up great things. Regarding the bad thing, Jesus warned the disciples: “Take heed, beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and the leaven of Herod Mrk.8:15.” Matthew wrote further explanation that Jesus did not tell them to beware of the leaven of bread, but of the doctrine of the Pharisees and Sadducees Mat.16:12.

So, what is the yeast of the Pharisees and the yeast of Herod? It is about the bad doctrine from them that will potentially contaminate the disciples! The wrong doctrine also looks very small and may be easily ignored. Doctrine not only come from the words of teaching but also from the way of life. It is very contagious, it will work something unseen, and it will destroy lots.

The yeast of the Pharisees is hypocrisy. Jesus said: “Even so you also outwardly appear righteous to men, but inside you are full of hypocrisy and lawlessness Mat.23:28.” The yeast of Herod is deceitfulness. Herod told the wise men that he wanted to worship the Messiah Mat.2:8 but actually he wanted to kill Him Mat.2:16. Jesus called Herod as fox Luk.13:32. Herod had desired for a long time to see Jesus, but actually he only hoped to see some miracle done by Him. Later, Herod ridiculed and mocked Jesus Luk.23:8,11. Both hypocrisy and deceitfulness are look small, unseen, but very dangerous. We must beware of that!

APAKAH RAGI ORANG FARISI DAN RAGI HERODES?

Dalam Alkitab, ragi dipakai untuk menjelaskan tentang hal yang baik dan juga yang buruk. Yesus berkata bahwa hal Kerajaan Surga itu seumpama ragi yang diambil seorang perempuan dan diadukkan ke dalam tepung terigu tiga sukat sampai khamir seluruhnya Mat.13:33. Ragi sangat kecil, mengerjakan proses yang tidak tampak, tetapi menghasilkan hal-hal yang besar. Mengenai hal yang buruk, Yesus memperingatkan para murid, ”Berjaga-jagalah dan awaslah terhadap ragi orang Farisi dan ragi Herodes Mrk.8:15.” Matius memberikan penjelasan bahwa yang dimaksud Yesus bukan supaya mereka waspada terhadap ragi roti, melainkan terhadap ajaran orang Farisi dan Saduki Mat.16:12.

Jadi, apakah ragi orang Farisi dan ragi Herodes? Ini adalah doktrin buruk dari mereka yang berpotensi merusak para murid! Doktrin yang jahat juga terlihat sangat kecil dan tampak mudah diabaikan. Doktrin bukan hanya berasal dari kata-kata pengajaran melainkan juga dari cara hidup. Itu sangat menular, itu akan mengerjakan sesuatu yang tidak tampak, dan akan menghancurkan banyak hal.

Ragi orang Farisi adalah kemunafikan. Yesus berkata, “Demikian jugalah kamu, di sebelah luar kamu tampaknya benar di mata orang, tetapi di sebelah dalam kamu penuh kemunafikan dan kedurjanaan Mat.23:28.” Ragi Herodes adalah tipu daya. Herodes memberi tahu orang Majus bahwa dia ingin menyembah Mesias Mat.2:8 padahal sebenarnya dia ingin membunuh-Nya Mat.2:16. Yesus menyebut Herodes sebagai serigala Luk.13:32. Herodes ingin melihat Yesus, tetapi sebenarnya dia hanya ingin melihat mujizat yang dilakukan Yesus. Setelah itu, Herodes menista dan mengolok-olok Yesus Luk.23:8,11. Kemunafikan dan tipu daya terlihat kecil, tidak tampak, tetapi sangat berbahaya. Kita harus waspada terhadap hal itu!
