Daily Bible Reading: Mark 10:28-52, Nehemiah 1-3

THE FAITH OF BARTIMAEUS

There was something special with the blind man down the road of Jericho. His name was Bartimaeus, the son of Timaeus; it means ‘highly prized’ but he found himself as a person that had to sit down as a beggar. Even though he couldn’t see with his physical eyes, but he could see something more important with the eyes of his heart. The Bible wrote: “And when he heard that it was Jesus of Nazareth, he began to cry out and say, ‘Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me Mrk.10:47!’”

Not all people at that days called Jesus as ‘the son of David’. That phrase was actually a declaration of faith about the promised Messiah. When someone called Jesus as the Son of David, it simply meant that he believed Jesus as the Messiah. Bartimaeus was able to see heavenly things beyond his blind eyes. Maybe someone told him about the promised Messiah and he put his faith on it strongly.

Jesus said to him, “Go your way; your faith has made you well.” And immediately he received his sight and followed Jesus on the road Mrk.10:52. It is all about faith that we can receive something more from heaven. The meaning behind his name now fulfilled, and it happened because of faith. Apart from the bad situation and condition we may have now, let’s see the promise of God beyond our physical eyes. And when we see it, let’s shout loud about it. For we walk by faith, not by sight 2Cor.5:7.

IMAN BARTIMEUS

Ada sesuatu yang istimewa dengan orang buta di luar kota Yerikho. Namanya Bartimeus, putra Timeus; yang berarti ‘sangat berharga‘ tetapi dia mendapati dirinya sebagai seorang yang harus duduk sebagai pengemis. Meskipun dia tidak bisa melihat dengan mata jasmaninya, namun dia dapat melihat sesuatu yang lebih penting dengan mata hatinya. Alkitab menulis: “Ketika didengarnya, bahwa itu adalah Yesus orang Nazaret, mulailah ia berseru: ‘Yesus, Anak Daud, kasihanilah aku Mrk.10:47!'”

Tidak semua orang pada masa itu memanggil Yesus sebagai ‘putra Daud’. Ungkapan itu sebenarnya adalah pernyataan iman tentang Mesias yang dijanjikan. Ketika seseorang menyebut Yesus sebagai Putra Daud, itu berarti bahwa dia percaya Yesus sebagai Mesias. Bartimeus dapat melihat hal-hal surgawi melampaui matanya yang buta. Mungkin seseorang memberi tahu dia tentang Mesias yang dijanjikan dan dia sangat mempercayainya.

Yesus berkata kepadanya, “Pergilah, imanmu telah menyelamatkan engkau!” Pada saat itu juga melihatlah ia, lalu ia mengikuti Yesus dalam perjalanan-Nya Mrk.10:52. Hanya oleh iman kita dapat menerima sesuatu lebih lagi dari surga. Makna di balik namanya sekarang terpenuhi, dan itu terjadi karena iman. Terlepas dari situasi dan kondisi buruk yang mungkin kita miliki sekarang, mari kita melihat janji Allah melampaui mata jasmani kita. Dan ketika kita melihatnya, mari kita menyerukannya. Sebab hidup kami ini adalah hidup karena percaya, bukan karena melihat 2Kor.5:7.
