Daily Bible Reading: Acts 15:1-21, Deuteronomy 17-19
A WELCOMING HAND
The message of salvation was preached widely but unfortunately, not all believers had a welcoming hand. Some of the sect of the Pharisees who had believed in Jesus tried to put more regulations for non-Jewish believers, they wanted the new believers to be circumcised just like what they did Ac.15:5. That was the wrong spirit, not coming from the Holy Spirit!
As much disputes were raised, Peter stood up to make everything clear and once again confirmed the greatest love of God for all people. God made no distinction between Jewish and non-Jewish, after purifying their hearts by faith Ac.15:7-9. The Council of Jerusalem (around AD 50) confirmed the essential message of the salvation in the name of Jesus. Peter and the disciples declared: “We believe that through the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ we shall be saved in the same manner as they Ac.15:11.”
We are called to welcome the unwelcome into the marvellous light of God just like Jesus welcomed Zacchaeus into the family of the believers. We are not supposed to add rules nor regulations more than what God already declared in His words. The wrong spirit will try to put more stumbling block, but the Holy Spirit will teach us to have a welcoming hand just like what He does, because salvation in Christ is open to everyone who believe Rm.1:16!
TANGAN YANG MENYAMBUT
Pesan keselamatan diberitakan secara luas tetapi sayangnya tidak semua orang percaya siap untuk memberikan sambutan hangat. Beberapa orang dari golongan Farisi yang telah percaya pada Yesus mencoba untuk membuat lebih banyak peraturan bagi orang-orang percaya non-Yahudi, mereka ingin orang-orang percaya yang baru juga disunat sama seperti yang mereka lakukan Kis.15:5. Itu adalah roh yang salah, bukan berasal dari Roh Kudus!
Ketika banyak perselisihan bermunculan, Petrus berdiri untuk meluruskan semuanya dan sekali lagi menegaskan kasih Allah yang sangat besar bagi semua orang. Allah sama sekali tidak mengadakan perbedaan antara orang Yahudi dengan non-Yahudi, sesudah Dia menyucikan hati mereka oleh iman Kis.15:7-9. Sidang Yerusalem (sekitar 50 M) memberikan konfirmasi akan pesan penting keselamatan di dalam nama Yesus. Petrus dan para murid menyatakan: “Kita percaya, bahwa oleh kasih karunia Tuhan Yesus Kristus kita akan beroleh keselamatan sama seperti mereka juga Kis.15:11.”
Kita dipanggil untuk menyambut orang-orang yang tidak disukai ke dalam terang Allah yang luar biasa seperti Yesus menyambut Zakheus ke dalam keluarga orang-orang percaya. Kita tidak seharusnya menambahkan syarat atau peraturan lebih dari apa yang sudah Tuhan nyatakan dalam Firman-Nya. Roh yang salah akan mencoba untuk meletakkan lebih banyak batu sandungan, tetapi Roh Kudus akan mengajar kita untuk memiliki tangan yang mau menyambut sama seperti yang Dia lakukan, karena keselamatan di dalam Kristus tersedia bagi semua orang yang mau percaya Rm.1:16!
