A LETTER FROM THE APOSTLES AND THE HOLY SPIRIT
The early church gave us a very strong example about how to live led by the Holy Spirit! The Council of Jerusalem, which happened around 50 AD, was concluded and sealed with a letter sent by Barnabas, Paul, also Judas Barsabas and Silas. That was a letter full of divine encouragement since the apostles did not compose it by themselves, but they involved the Holy Spirit through all of its process!
The apostles wrote: “For it seemed good to the Holy Spirit, and to us Ac.15:28!” Their decision was based on what Holy Spirit said good, not just by their own justification! The early church received full blessing from heaven as they always ask first what Holy Spirit wants them to do. Simply we can say that they will not take any single step unless the Holy Spirit say so.
Believers are called as the temple of the Holy Spirit. We are bought with a price, therefore glorify God in our body and in our spirit, which are God’s 1Cor.6:19-20. We must understand that we are not supposed to live by our own will anymore. Jesus gave us the best option to have a victorious life, peaceful life, also joyful life, and that option is to live led by the Holy Spirit. As apostle Paul wrote: “I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me Gal.2:20.” And those who are Christ’s have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit Gal.5:24-25.
SURAT DARI PARA RASUL DAN ROH KUDUS
Gereja mula-mula memberikan contoh yang sangat kuat tentang bagaimana hidup di dalam pimpinan Roh Kudus! Sidang di Yerusalem, yang terjadi sekitar 50 M, disimpulkan dan dimeteraikan dengan surat yang dikirim oleh Barnabas, Paulus, juga Yudas Barsabas dan Silas. Surat itu adalah surat yang penuh dengan penghiburan ilahi karena para rasul tidak menyusunnya sendiri, tetapi mereka melibatkan Roh Kudus di dalam semua prosesnya!
Para rasul menulis, ”Sebab adalah keputusan Roh Kudus dan keputusan kami Kis.15:28!” Keputusan mereka didasarkan pada apa yang Roh Kudus katakan baik, bukan hanya dengan penilaian mereka sendiri! Gereja mula-mula menerima sepenuh berkat dari surga karena mereka selalu bertanya terlebih dahulu apa yang Roh Kudus ingin mereka lakukan. Secara sederhana kita dapat mengatakan bahwa mereka tidak akan mengambil satu langkah pun kecuali Roh Kudus mengatakan demikian.
Orang-orang percaya disebut sebagai bait Roh Kudus. Kita telah dibeli dan harganya telah lunas dibayar, karena itu muliakanlah Allah dengan tubuhmu dan dengan rohmu 1Kor.6:19-20. Kita harus mengerti bahwa tidak seharusnya kita hidup dengan kehendak diri sendiri lagi. Yesus memberikan pilihan terbaik supaya kita dapat memiliki hidup yang berkemenangan, hidup yang penuh damai, juga hidup yang penuh sukacita, dan pilihan itu adalah hidup dalam pimpinan Roh Kudus. Seperti rasul Paulus menulis, “Aku hidup, tetapi bukan lagi aku sendiri yang hidup, melainkan Kristus yang hidup di dalam aku. Dan hidupku yang ku hidupi sekarang di dalam daging, adalah hidup oleh iman dalam Anak Allah yang telah mengasihi aku dan menyerahkan diri-Nya untuk aku Gal.2:20.” Dan barangsiapa menjadi milik Kristus Yesus, dia telah menyalibkan daging dengan segala hawa nafsu dan keinginannya. Jikalau kita hidup oleh Roh, baiklah hidup kita juga dipimpin oleh Roh Gal.5:24-25.
