FIGHTING THE DEVIL AT PAPHOS

Paphos was the place of turning point where Saul no longer called as Saul but Paul, and that was the place where Paul rebuked the devil from Elymas. Elymas was a sorcerer, a false prophet, who tried to oppose Paul and to turn the governor away from the faith Ac.13:8-9. Paul called him as the son of the devil, enemy of all righteousness.

We do not know what Elymas tried to say to Sergius Paulus, but we can understand that he tried to alter everything that Paul explained to the governor. The devil will never stop to work! He likes to wait for an opportune time Lk.4:13. He walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour 1Pet.5:8. And he likes to pervert the straight ways of the Lord Ac.13:10! These are the facts about the devil that the Bible told us so that the believers will be able to aware and watchful.

Just like Paul rebuked the devil, so do believers also have the authority to rebuke the devil! Do not let the devil alter the straight ways of the Lord. Do not let the devil modify the Word of God. Whenever we sense the devil trying to oppose the work of God, we must rebuke him in the name of Jesus. Jesus said: “And these signs will follow those who believe: In My name they will cast out demons Mrk.16:17.”

MEMERANGI IBLIS DI PAFOS

Pafos adalah lokasi titik balik di mana Saulus tidak lagi disebut sebagai Saulus melainkan Paulus, dan itu adalah tempat di mana Paulus menghardik iblis dari Elimas. Elimas adalah seorang tukang sihir, seorang nabi palsu, yang berusaha menghalang-halangi Paulus dan membelokkan gubernur dari iman Kis.13:8-9. Paulus memanggilnya sebagai putra iblis, musuh segala kebenaran.

Kita tidak tahu apa yang dikatakan Elimas pada Sergius Paulus, tetapi kita dapat mengerti bahwa dia mencoba untuk mengganti segala sesuatu yang dijelaskan Paulus kepada gubernur. Iblis tidak akan pernah berhenti bekerja! Dia suka menunggu waktu yang baik Luk.4:13. Dia berjalan seperti singa yang mengaum, mencari siapa yang dapat dia telan 1Pet.5:8. Dan dia suka membelokkan jalan Tuhan yang lurus Kis.13:10! Ini adalah fakta-fakta tentang iblis yang dikatakan Alkitab supaya orang-orang percaya dapat sadar dan waspada.

Sama seperti Paulus menghardik iblis, demikian juga orang percaya juga memiliki wewenang untuk menghardik iblis! Jangan biarkan iblis mengubah jalan Tuhan yang lurus. Jangan biarkan iblis memodifikasi Firman Tuhan. Setiap kali kita merasakan usaha iblis untuk menentang pekerjaan Allah, kita harus menghardiknya dalam nama Yesus. Yesus berkata, “Tanda-tanda ini akan menyertai orang-orang yang percaya: mereka akan mengusir setan-setan demi nama-Ku Mrk.16:17.”
