Daily Bible Reading: John 17, Ezekiel 24-26

CHRISTIAN UNITED

Unity is the heart of God. In the last night before crucifixion, Jesus prayed: “I do not pray for these alone, but also for those who will believe in Me through their word; that they all may be one, as You, Father, are in Me, and I in You; that they also may be one in Us, that the world may believe that You sent Me Jn.17:20-21.”

The unity of believers is not just a dream. Indeed, it is a prophecy, a promise, and also a process. David wrote: “Behold, how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity Psa.133:1!” And just right after the day of Pentecost we can read how the early church was continuing daily with one accord in the temple, and breaking bread from house to house, they ate their food with gladness and simplicity of heart Ac.2:46. And that heavenly unity continued and was recorded everywhere in the book of Acts.

Paul wrote: “Above all these things put on love, which is the bond of perfection. And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to which also you were called in one body; and be thankful Col.3:14-15.” Love and peace are the keys to unity and those are works of the Holy Spirit Rom.5:5. When Christian keep walking in the Spirit, indeed we are being reinforced from time to time to continue in the process of the greatest unity in the history of human age. Let us keep remembering the prayer of Jesus in that night and let us work together toward it.

UMAT KRISTEN YANG BERSATU

Kesatuan adalah isi hati Allah. Di malam terakhir sebelum penyaliban, Yesus berdoa demikian: “Dan bukan untuk mereka ini saja Aku berdoa, tetapi juga untuk orang-orang, yang percaya kepada-Ku oleh pemberitaan mereka; supaya mereka semua menjadi satu, sama seperti Engkau, ya Bapa, di dalam Aku dan Aku di dalam Engkau, agar mereka juga di dalam Kita, supaya dunia percaya, bahwa Engkaulah yang telah mengutus Aku Yoh.17:20-21.”

Kesatuan orang percaya bukan hanya sekedar mimpi. Sesungguhnya, itu adalah nubuatan, janji, bahkan juga proses. Daud menulis: “Sungguh, alangkah baiknya dan indahnya, apabila saudara-saudara diam bersama dengan rukun Mzm.133:1!” Dan tepat setelah hari Pentakosta kita dapat membaca bagaimana gereja mula-mula dengan bertekun dan dengan sehati mereka berkumpul tiap-tiap hari dalam Bait Allah. Mereka memecahkan roti di rumah masing-masing secara bergilir dan makan bersama-sama dengan gembira dan dengan tulus hati Kis.2:46. Dan kesatuan surgawi itu berlanjut dan dicatat di sepanjang kitab Kisah Para Rasul.

Paulus menulis, “Dan di atas semuanya itu: kenakanlah kasih, sebagai pengikat yang mempersatukan dan menyempurnakan. Hendaklah damai sejahtera Kristus memerintah dalam hatimu, karena untuk itulah kamu telah dipanggil menjadi satu tubuh. Dan bersyukurlah Kol.3:14-15.” Kasih dan damai sejahtera adalah kunci persatuan dan hal itu adalah pekerjaan Roh Kudus Rom.5:5. Ketika umat Kristen tetap berjalan dalam Roh, sesungguhnya kita sedang diperkuat dari waktu ke waktu untuk melanjutkan proses kesatuan terbesar dalam sejarah umat manusia. Marilah kita tetap mengingat doa Yesus di malam itu dan marilah kita bekerja bersama untuk mencapainya.
