Daily Bible Reading: James 2, Isaiah 45-46

THE ROYAL LAW

Even though at first the brother of Jesus did not believe in Him Jn.7:5, including James, but at last he acknowledged Jesus as Lord and Christ, the King of kings. James wrote: If you really fulfil the royal law according to the Scripture, “You shall love your neighbour as yourself,” you do well; but if you show partiality, you commit sin, and are convicted by the law as transgressors Jam.2:8-9.

Jesus taught the disciples about the first and the great commandment Mat.22:37-40. Actually, that commandment is the royal law, the law of the kingdom of heaven, the law of love. Paul also wrote: For all the law is fulfilled in one word, even in this: “You shall love your neighbour as yourself Gal.5:14.”

To fulfil that royal law, we must not show partiality. Just like God loves all nations and all people, so do we must love our neighbour, regardless of their nationality and background. Jesus said: “A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another; as I have loved you, that you also love one another. By this all will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another Jn.13:34-35.” By doing that royal law, we are actually in a good track to declare the excellency of the kingdom of heaven. Let us together fulfil that royal law so that more people can feel and receive the unconditional love of God.

HUKUM KERAJAAN

Meskipun pada awalnya saudara-saudara Yesus tidak percaya kepada-Nya Yoh.7:5, termasuk Yakobus, namun akhirnya dia mengakui Yesus sebagai Tuhan dan Kristus, Raja segala raja. Yakobus menulis: Akan tetapi, jikalau kamu menjalankan hukum utama (TL: hukum kerajaan) yang tertulis dalam Kitab Suci: “Kasihilah sesamamu manusia seperti dirimu sendiri”, kamu berbuat baik. Tetapi, jikalau kamu memandang muka, kamu berbuat dosa, dan oleh hukum itu menjadi nyata, bahwa kamu melakukan pelanggaran Yak.2:8-9.

Yesus mengajar murid-muridnya tentang perintah yang terutama dan yang pertama Mat.22:37-40. Sebenarnya, perintah itu adalah hukum kerajaan, hukum kerajaan surga, hukum kasih. Paulus juga menulis: Sebab seluruh hukum Taurat tercakup dalam satu firman ini, yaitu: “Kasihilah sesamamu manusia seperti dirimu sendiri Gal.5:14.”

Untuk memenuhi hukum kerajaan itu, kita tidak boleh memandang muka. Sama seperti Allah mencintai semua bangsa dan semua orang, demikian pula kita harus mencintai sesama kita, terlepas dari apa bangsa dan latar belakang mereka. Yesus berkata, “Aku memberikan perintah baru kepada kamu, yaitu supaya kamu saling mengasihi; sama seperti Aku telah mengasihi kamu demikian pula kamu harus saling mengasihi. Dengan demikian semua orang akan tahu, bahwa kamu adalah murid-murid-Ku, yaitu jikalau kamu saling mengasihi Yoh.13:34-35.” Dengan melakukan hukum kerajaan itu, kita sebenarnya berada di jalur yang benar untuk mendeklarasikan keagungan kerajaan surga. Marilah kita bersama-sama menggenapi hukum kerajaan itu sehingga lebih banyak orang dapat merasakan dan menerima cinta Allah yang tak bersyarat.
