SPECIAL SUFFERING

Suffering may sounds not comfort at all. But the Bible told us about special suffering that had been made ready for believers. Peter wrote: If you are reproached for the name of Christ, blessed are you, for the Spirit of glory and of God rests upon you. On their part He is blasphemed, but on your part, He is glorified 1Pet.4:14.

Believers must be ready to experience suffering for the name of Christ. In the days of early church, the apostles were rejoicing that they were counted worthy to suffer shame for His name Ac.5:41. Paul wrote: “For to you it has been granted on behalf of Christ, not only to believe in Him, but also to suffer for His sake Phil.1:29.” Indeed, all sufferings for Christ is the manifest evidence of the righteous judgment of God, that we may be counted worthy of the kingdom of God, for which we also suffer 2Thes.1:5.

Those sufferings may come at any level. In the days of Jesus, anyone confessed that Jesus was Christ would be put out of the synagogue Jn.9:22. Even Jesus said: “They will put you out of the synagogues; yes, the time is coming that whoever kills you will think that he offers God service Jn.16:2.” Believers may be put out from their community because of their strong faith in Jesus Christ. Do not give up, instead, we must accept that as the special sacrifice. Truly, when that reproach happened, we are blessed because the Spirit of glory and of God rests upon us. Let us always remember that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us Rom.8:18.

PENDERITAAN YANG ISTIMEWA

Penderitaan mungkin terdengar tidak nyaman sama sekali. Namun demikian Alkitab mengatakan tentang penderitaan istimewa yang telah disiapkan untuk orang percaya. Petrus menulis: Berbahagialah kamu, jika kamu dinista karena nama Kristus, sebab Roh kemuliaan, yaitu Roh Allah ada padamu. Di pihak mereka Kristus dihujat, tetapi di pihakmu Kristus dimuliakan 1Pet.4:14.

Orang percaya harus siap untuk mengalami penderitaan demi nama Kristus. Pada zaman gereja mula-mula, para rasul bergembira karena mereka telah dianggap layak menderita penghinaan oleh karena Nama Yesus Kis.5:41. Paulus menulis: “Sebab kepada kamu dikaruniakan bukan saja untuk percaya kepada Kristus, melainkan juga untuk menderita untuk Dia Flp.1:29.” Sesungguhnya, semua penderitaan karena Kristus adalah suatu bukti nyata tentang adilnya penghakiman Allah, yang menyatakan bahwa kita layak menjadi warga Kerajaan Allah, yang mana kita sekarang menderita karena Kerajaan itu 2Tes.1:5.

Penderitaan itu dapat datang dalam berbagai bentuk. Pada zaman Yesus, setiap orang yang mengaku bahwa Yesus adalah Kristus akan dikucilkan dari sinagoga Yoh.9:22. Bahkan Yesus berkata, “Kamu akan dikucilkan, bahkan akan datang saatnya bahwa setiap orang yang membunuh kamu akan menyangka bahwa ia berbuat bakti bagi Allah Yoh.16:2.” Orang percaya mungkin akan dikucilkan dari komunitas mereka karena iman yang kokoh pada Yesus Kristus. Jangan menyerah, sebaliknya, kita harus menerimanya sebagai penderitaan yang istimewa. Sesungguhnya, ketika penghinaan itu terjadi, kita mendapat berkat, karena Roh kemuliaan dan Roh Allah ada atas kita. Marilah kita selalu mengingat bahwa penderitaan zaman sekarang ini tidak dapat dibandingkan dengan kemuliaan yang akan dinyatakan kepada kita Rom.8:18.
