ZEAL: WHAT IS THAT?

When commencing His public ministry, Jesus did something very uncommon that never be done by any people in His days. He cleansed the temple! The Bible wrote: And He said to those who sold doves, “Take these things away! Do not make My Father’s house a house of merchandise!” Then His disciples remembered that it was written, “Zeal for Your house has eaten Me up Jn.2:16-17.”

Zeal is something that the disciples must have! Zeal for God’s house will lead us to do something for the sake of the Kingdom of God, not for our own necessity. The first mention about zeal can be found in the days of Phinehas. The Bible wrote: “Phinehas the son of Eleazar, the son of Aaron the priest, has turned back My wrath from the children of Israel, because he was zealous with My zeal among them, so that I did not consume the children of Israel in My zeal Num.25:11.” Instead of agreeing with the sins of Israelites in his days, Phinehas dedicated himself to declare the holiness of God and kill off the sins!

Zeal is not just a strong action. Zeal is commenced and must always begin with the burning love of God inside us so that we let God use our life as His extension to declare His holiness, His will, His truth, even though it is totally opposing to what is trending around us. Instead of agreeing with the religious leaders in those days to change everything as the house of merchandise, Jesus let the zeal from heaven eat Him up. As now we are living in the world that is passing away in the lust of sins 1Jn.2:17, let us encourage each other to always have the zeal for the Kingdom of God keep burning in our life.

GIAT CEMBURU: APAKAH ITU?

Ketika memulai pelayanan-Nya di depan banyak orang, Yesus melakukan sesuatu yang sangat tidak umum, yang tidak pernah dilakukan oleh siapa pun di zaman-Nya. Dia membersihkan Bait Suci! Alkitab mencatat: Kepada pedagang-pedagang merpati Ia berkata: “Ambil semuanya ini dari sini, jangan kamu membuat rumah Bapa-Ku menjadi tempat berjualan.” Maka teringatlah murid-murid-Nya, bahwa ada tertulis: “Cinta untuk rumah-Mu menghanguskan Aku Yoh.2:16-17.”

Giat cemburu adalah sesuatu yang harus dimiliki oleh para murid! Giat cemburu untuk rumah Tuhan akan memimpin kita untuk melakukan sesuatu demi Kerajaan Allah, bukan untuk kepentingan kita sendiri. Catatan tentang giat cemburu untuk pertama kalinya dapat ditemukan pada zaman Pinehas. Alkitab menulis: “Pinehas, anak Eleazar, anak imam Harun, telah menyurutkan murka-Ku dari pada orang Israel, oleh karena ia begitu giat membela kehormatan-Ku di tengah-tengah mereka, sehingga tidaklah Kuhabisi orang Israel dalam cemburu-Ku Bil.25:11.” Daripada bersetuju dengan dosa-dosa orang Israel di zamannya, Pinehas mengkhususkan hidupnya untuk mendeklarasikan kekudusan Tuhan dan membunuh semua dosa!

Giat cemburu bukan hanya sekedar tindakan yang keras. Giat cemburu dimulai dan harus selalu diawali dengan cinta Allah yang membara dalam diri kita sehingga kita mengizinkan Allah memakai hidup kita sebagai perpanjangan tangan-Nya untuk menyatakan kekudusan-Nya, kehendak-Nya, kebenaran-Nya, sekalipun hal itu sangat bertentangan dengan apa yang sedang marak di sekitar kita. Daripada bersetuju dengan para pemimpin agama pada masa itu untuk mengubah segalanya menjadi tempat berjualan, Yesus mengizinkan giat cemburu dari surga untuk menghanguskan Dia. Sementara saat ini kita hidup di dunia yang sedang lenyap dengan keinginan dosa 1Yoh.2:17, marilah kita saling mendorong untuk selalu memiliki giat cemburu Kerajaan Allah yang terus membara dalam hidup kita.
