Who Am I – Gen1:26-28

Sunday Service | Mt. Zion Church | The Highest Calling Series | 7 Jan 2018

Believers must live in the true calling that God already gave, otherwise this world will dictate us to the wrong target! As we already jump into the first month of 2018, it is very important for us to reflect who we are and why we are here. Christians must live and hold fast the true calling from God, so we can always direct our step in the right lane and let anything distract our race toward eternity! We are going to start this first Sunday in 2018 with one big question: Who am I? We should clearly identify who we are, so we are able to get focus about God’s plan in our life generally, and particularly in this year! Apostle Peter taught us an important thing about our calling that we need to be more diligent to make our call and election sure so we will never stumble!

10 Therefore, brethren, be even more diligent to make your call and election sure, for if you do these things you will never stumble; 11 for so an entrance will be supplied to you abundantly into the everlasting kingdom of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. 2Peter 1:10-11 NKJV

A BRAND-NEW DEFINITION OF ME

As a believer, we are not merely defined by our name nor by our profession! We have something more important which is the heavenly calling! Only that calling could give us a strong foundation why we are here and what we should do here! Back around 6000 years ago when God created the first human, we could learn what God really want from us.

26 Then God said, “Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over the cattle, over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.” 27 So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them. 28 Then God blessed them, and God said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply; fill the earth and subdue it; have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over every living thing that moves on the earth.” Genesis 1:26-28 NKJV

There was something very special in the creation of man. There was nothing from the previous God’s creation which created in God’s own image! Human being was created in God’s image, according to Their likeness! That truths brought a very important meaning for us as Christians. Do we already reflect God’s image and God’s likeness throughout our daily conversation? We may realize that being like Christ is not always easy, but we must not come into ignorance regarding this calling! Whenever we find it is very hard to accomplish that, at the same time we could shout to the Lord and cry out asking for His grace to be poured out within us. Even apostle Paul also found that sometimes it was not easy to be like Christ, but he found that whenever he became weak actually the strength of God is ready to be injected in his life, so he could become stronger and stronger 2Cor.12:10.

11 And He Himself gave some to be apostles, some prophets, some evangelists, and some pastors and teachers, 12 for the equipping of the saints for the work of ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ, 13 till we all come to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to a perfect man, to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ; Ephesians 4:11-13 NKJV

We should life with a sturdy purpose which is come to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ! Let’s have this divine purpose as our goal in this life. If we have this value rooted deep down in our heart, so we will become strong enough to say no for any distraction. So, who am I? I am the ultimate creation of God, created in His image and His likeness!
The second thing is about DOMINION! God created human with a purpose to dominate this world and God also equip His creation to fulfil that! We are the ultimate creation of God and we must not diminish that meaning. God wants us to rule the content of this world. This world is fulfilled with the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and also the pride of life. None of those things come from God the Father, but it all come from the world 1Jn.2:16-17. Dominate this world means that we are not going to let the trends from this world reigns our life. Dominate this world means that we must scrape out all wrong value from this world because we already have the highest value of life defined by God. Dominate this world also means that we are not going to feel shame declaring the voice of truth in this wild world since we have power and anointing from God to do that.
FAITH is the strong weapon to dominate this world. And faith only comes by hearing the Word of God Rm.10:17.

4 For whatever is born of God overcomes the world. And this is the victory that has overcome the world—our faith. 5 Who is he who overcomes the world, but he who believes that Jesus is the Son of God? 1John 5:4-5 NKJV

If we open our ears too wide to the sound of this world then the value of this world will dominate our heart, so we could feel reluctant to speak out and show up the heavenly value. But if we open our ears widely and constantly to the sound of truth from the word of God then the value of heaven will fulfil our life, so we will be brave enough and eager to live in God’s value!
The power of Holy Spirit will also equip us to dominate this world. Paul wrote to us: Walk in the Spirit, and you shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh Gal.5:16. Holy Spirit is faithful and persistent to always remind us about all things that Jesus already said to us Jn.14:26. Holy Spirit also love to keep praying for us, helping us in our weaknesses, making intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered, so we are able to overcome this world Rm.8:26-27. We are not going to follow the false teaching from this world. We must hold fast the Word of God and dominate this world! So, who am I? I am the believer with the power to dominate this world!
The last one is about BLESSING! In the days of creation, God did not bless the animal, God did not bless the sun and the stars, God did not bless the dry land, but God did something totally different when created human, God blessed human and spoke a blessing for them! We are created in blessing and we are called to live in God’s blessing. Living in God’s blessing requires a good understanding from us as a human and also a persistent commitment.
Blessing always given from the superior person to the inferior one. Living in a blessing means that we must always put ourselves inferior rather than God and never replace His position. Living in a blessing means that we submit everything, whatever we have and whatever we will do, to His presence, asking for His grace, and we do it all willingly from the bottom our heart! Living in God’s blessing requires us to always in kneel down position, so we can be ready to accept His blessing. God called Abram to receive a blessing and also be a blessing Gen.12:1-3. And God called us as sons of Abraham, so we are blessed together with believing Abraham Gal.3:9.
Blessing always come with a command! Blessing will not come into effect if someone decide not to do anything! The first blessing is given for Adam and Eve, so they could be fruitful and multiplied, fill the earth and subdue it Gen.1:28. The blessing will come into its fullness whenever we give a good and diligent response for that blessing. God wants us to live in His blessing, so we can do everything happily as we know that God’s blessing is upon us and we will never be a single fighter in all our fight and struggle! So, who am I? I am the one who called to live in God’s blessing!

1 “Now it shall come to pass, if you diligently obey the voice of the Lord your God, to observe carefully all His commandments which I command you today, that the Lord your God will set you high above all nations of the earth. 2 And all these blessings shall come upon you and overtake you, because you obey the voice of the Lord your God: Deuteronomy 28:1-2 NKJV

Let’s start this year with joy, peace, and also confidence as we have the highest calling from God. Let’s have a purpose driven life, a strong purpose to fulfil God’s calling within us. We are called to be like Him, so let’s keep growing. We are called to dominate this world, so let’s put on all heavenly weapon. And we are called to receive God’s blessing, so let’s diligently obey His voice and observe carefully His commandments. Happy New Year 2018! AMEN.
